This is a case-based activity that includes discussion of 73 year-old man with no other medical problems. Past medical history includes a 1.15 mm ulcerated melanoma, 3 mit/mm2 Left post shoulder in May 2012. Wide local excision/sentinel lymph node revealed no residual melanoma in wide local excision and 0/2 lymph nodes. No adjuvant therapy was recommended. In September 2016, new lesion noted R chest, 25 mm, firm subcutaneous nodule. Biopsy revealed metastatic melanoma.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the initial treatment selection for patients with rapidly progressive melanoma
  • Manage steroid refractory diarrhea resulting from checkpoint blockade
  • Describe the persistent nature of some of the autoimmune averse events associated with checkpoint blockade
  • Explain the role of surgical management of oligo-metastatic disease
