Cancer is a disease of aging. There is an ever increasing number of older people with cancer, though less is known about the best way to treat cancer in older adults. Given the shortage of geriatricians, older adults with cancer who have other health status issues will be often be cared for by oncologists. Many older patients with cancer see their oncology team more than any other provider group, especially those older patients who are getting treatments for cancer. Oncologists will be faced with making complex decisions regarding treatment for older patients with cancer who have complex medical issues. The ASCO Geriatric Oncology Special Interest Group has recognized this need and is organizing a Case-Based Course to address the needs of older adult oncology patients from diagnosis through survivorship and practical approaches to incorporating available evidence into a patient-centered model of care. This seminar is approved for physician and nursing credits.
