This course provides an overview of cancer screening and prevention strategies for a variety of cancers including breast cancer, HPV-related malignancies, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. In addition, two patient case studies on lung and breast cancer offer the opportunity to apply screening and risk assessment tools to better improve patient outcomes.

After participation in this course, learner will be better able to:

  • Discuss types of evidence supporting prevention and screening patient care guidelines
  • Apply the knowledge of the breast cancer risk assessment, screening and risk reduction recommendations in clinical practice
  • Recognize the potential value of HPV vaccination for decreasing the burden of HPV-associated cancers
  • Discuss etiology of colorectal cancer and its application to practice
  • Apply knowledge of lung cancer screening to improved shared decision making with patients
  • Incorporate the concept of over-diagnosis in consideration of screening for prostate cancer
