Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are uncommon tumors of the GI tract. This is a case-based activity that includes a discussion of a 60-year-old woman with no significant medical history who presented with 3 days of persistent right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Examination was notable for mild right upper quadrant tenderness and a soft, non-distended abdomen.

At the end of this course, learners should be able to:

1. Identify the key pathologic and histologic features in GIST to determine appropriate use of adjuvant imatinib following surgical resection.

2. Define the role of genetic mutation testing in GIST and how it impacts treatment selection

3. Describe the pivotal clinical trials for treatment of metastatic GIST

IMPORTANT NOTE: This course expires on July 18, 2020. Participants must complete all necessary course components by this date.
