This is a case-based activity that includes discussion of a 69-year-old woman with positive fecal occult blood test (FOBT), who underwent a colonoscopy showing hepatic flexure adenocarcinoma. The patient then underwent hemicolectomy, staging pT3 N2 cM0.

At the end of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Examine the important clinical and molecular subgroups of advanced colorectal cancer
  • Explain the relevance of extended RAS mutations and BRAF beyond KRAS exon 2 in current practice
  • Determine the impact of side of primary on prognosis and treatment choice
  • Discuss the additional mutations beyond RAS and RAF, i.e. Her 2, MSI/dMMR, and impact on therapy
